Abstract:Although poetry does not reproduce reality, but recreates and reinvents it, it always does it starting from the real world, because we invent starting from what it already exists, at least paradigmatically, the invention being mainly related to the more or less divergent association of the constitutive parts of some entity, or of the overturning of the syntagmatic relationship between the entities of reality taken into consideration.
Without questioning the concept of self-reference of poetry, an undoubtedly theoretical acquisition, we consider that the poetic discourse/ text cannot abstract from reality. In the absence of the reference to the real world, the text would become not only circular, uninterruptedly signalling its circularity, but also incomprehensible. Yet, if it calls for reality, it does it in its own manner. And this is the very manner that makes the object of our investigation.
We concentrate, in our trial of analysis, on Mallarmé’s poem Apparition, which we would name “cosmogonical”, because it is, as the cosmogonical myths, creator of a particular material and spiritual universe.
