| Abstract: | This paper highlights the contribution of Niccolò Machiavelli, Thomas Hobbes and John Locke to the founding of a new political theory. The analysis therefore focuses on the fundamental conceptions that paved the way to modern political thought: the civil polity and statecraft, the social contract theory and political legitimacy, unlimited or limited sovereign power. |
