Abstract:Taking into account the fractal perspective upon life itself, the existential universe becomes focused on discontinuity regarded as primery sourse for different behivours. In this light, the contemporary science can only grasp the uni-dimensional appearance of forms by quantifying their materiality. In change, the fractal perspective brings forth spiritual contemplation due to the fact that forms have qualitative, dynamic nature. “The form is free diversity” said Bachelard in a fractalic manner, idea which clearly renders the fractal urge of escaping any type of atomist schemata. Thus, fractal sight goes deeper and deeper into details, enhancing the complexity within simplicity, fact that brings into discussion the fractal concept of true-to-life illusion. As A.Boutot said, “it invites us to believe that any part of the universe encloses a new complex universe” like a Chinese box.
Can literature be regarded as a fractal object? We strongly believe so and, for us, the analysis of the fractal features in literature asks for a dual critical view involving identity and difference, unity and fragmentation. Thus, the necessary coexistence of the two ways of approaching fractals in literature brings about the concept of continuity in rupture which appears to be the only productive critical pattern suiting the purposes of our approach. From this perspective, even a „classical” poetic text such as Eminescu’s Melancholy points out the fractalic features defined by Mandelbrot. Thus, Eminescu’s poetic imagery enhanced in the above mentioned poem goes beyond literary identity, fractality being the way through which the text surpasses its own age.
