Abstract:This paper deals with cultural markers in the case of the translation for children. The author identifies potential cultural markers in the fairy tales of the Countess of Ségur and then analyzes the way they are tackled in four Romanian translations published by different publishing houses in different years. This analysis reveals the existence of a certain pattern. Even if, in general, translation solutions are not retained from one translation to another, it can be noticed that all translators tend to bring the text closer to their audience (for example by translating nicknames), while at the same time they tend to preserve some of the elements which give a clue as to the origin of the text and render the lexical richness of the original.
