Abstract: | [The Slavonic Influence on Word Order in Old Romanian Texts] The Slavonic influence on word order in ancient Romanian texts analyses the peculiarities of the Romanian language found in sixteenth century texts. These religious texts translated from Slavonic, in which personal and unstressed reflexive pronouns in the dative and accusative are enclitic when compared to the verb. In addition, the compound verb forms (past tense, future, present conditional) the auxiliary verb becomes enclitic too. The non-translated texts prefer in their turn the reverse order which is also required in contemporary Romanian. Therefore the postpositioning of pronouns and auxiliary verbs in the translated text is considered a syntactic calque of Slavonic. This method has never become a frequent phenomenon in the spoken language, but it remained in the written language, where it is now a mark of the poetic and archaic style. |
