Abstract: | This article focuses on intercultural communication in the classroom, on how it has been done in my home institution and on how it could be improved. The quality of intercultural communication classes is assessable based on students’ acquired intercultural competence. Starting from definitions of cultural competence, the article outlines relevant dimensions to be considered when designing intercultural communication classroom activities and when evaluating students’ intercultural competence. Based on participant observation and classroom ethnography, it suggests how ICT tools can contribute to developing intercultural competence in a way that empowers students to take control of their learning process and become creative learners. |
