Abstract: | Kipling was and still is a highly controversial figure among his critics. Both praised and dismissed at his time, later on re-evaluated from the perspective of postcolonial criticism, Kipling is beyond doubt a literary figure shaped by his time whose life and work offer us a re-reading of the history of British India. This paper refers to the critical perspectives of New Historicism and Postcolonial theories that offer a deeper understanding of this controversial writer whose work places him in an ambivalent area of conflicting allegiances. |
