Abstract:Mental illness and violence have a substantial function in Robert Musils The man without qualities. Moosbrugger’s delusions have an anthropological nature and play a crucial role in the preservation of the self-consciousness. Musil leads the thesis that the illness can carry its own meaning in itself using the example of the sexual murderer Moosbrugger. The Abnormal can clarify certain traits of human character, which otherwise remain hidden. The delusional experience repeals the tension between subject and object, while outer and inner world are no longer separate from each other.
Key words:Killer, madness, sense of possibilities
