Abstract:The poet enters by himself in the narrative or descriptive pattern the stylistic matrix of which is given by the helix – the vortex or the labyrinth, the axis – the road to the center or the identity and the exist – the “disappearance of the outside” – all the meanings of exile in English. Andrei Codrescu (a Romanian poet settled in New Orleans, The United States) writes a visionary poetry from the perspective of Balkan Levantine wisdom: the protection of the individual against history. Ambiguity, humor, paradox, parody, introspection, ontological memory, anamnesis, retrospection – all weapons of survival, are the instruments of a retro oriented prose in which the poet perceives the uprooting by symbols of the human condition: the alienation, the outsider and the exile. As an active rhetoric sign the return passage (the substitution) common to the text of the new literary cannon functions: the world as a borgesian library. The discursivity, the cutting of the lines (cut-up, the surrealist technique in the American da-da poems) associated with the mainstream technique of the journalistic style give the lines “respiration”, a possible world. The tension between escape and reconstruction as simultaneous manifestations of the transcendence in the search of sense or the “hunger for identity” institute “the person as a unique identity”.
