Abstract:This study highlights the two leading tendencies of the Ivorian Muslim community and its characteristics. There are the supporters of the conventional interpretation of Islam and those of the reformist wing. From 1946 onwards, the reformists trained in the Maghreb and the Middle-East universities demanded an end to the traditionalists’ monopoly of power. This situation illustrates the beginning of a fight for domination opposing the two tendencies within the Ivorian Muslim community. This opposing view between the two groups resulted in rivalry which plunges the community into a bipolar context with high political, economic and social stakes.
