Abstract:This study is an attempt to demonstrate the very close connections between language, its poetic virtues (in both spoken and written language) and identity. Patrick Chamoiseau, famous contemporary francophone writer from the Antilles islands admirably illustrates, in each of his texts, this interdependence. The novel Solibo Magnifique (Solibo the Magnificent) is an inexhaustible source of arguments on the poeticity of the spoken language as a result of accepting the double linguistic affiliation that is much more than a mere diglossia. The virtues of orality lie, together with other elements of the text, at the foundation of a poetics of memory.
