Abstract: | [Bilingual Writing in Inter-War Mureş Press] In written form, the bilingualism appeared in the Mures press of the 20s as a natural consequence of the political act of The Great Union, which created the necessary administrative frame for changing Târgu Mureş into a Romanian town. This process raised the necessity to adapt the media communication to the two main categories of local readers, Romanian and Hungarian. Whereas the official bilingual publications expressed formally the new state setting for the interethnic communication, the independent newspapers illustrate the peaceful leaving between the two ethnies, despite the nationalist profile of the political and journalistic discourse of the period. |
