[Modal Marker Parcă – Syntactic and Semantic Analysis] The aim of this article is to provide an analysis of the evidential-epistemic marker parcă in Romanian. Parcă is a modal marker which undergoes a process of grammaticalization from the 3rd person of the modal verb a părea followed by the complementizer. First, I propose a diachronic reconstruction and I investigate the status of this modal marker as a PredicateC-adverb. Second, I correlate this syntactic description with the semantic interpretation of parcă as evidential-epistemic modal marker. The present work therefore deals with grammaticalization and language change, but also with the two categories with which this marker can be associated, namely, evidentiality and epistemic modality.
