Abstract: | The concept of translation-loyalty of literary works is presented in this paper, approached from the historical perspective of translation studies. The current special bibliography of translation-theory deals with the question of loyalty-disloyalty in the category of appropriateness and timeliness, therefore it is focusing more on its reception history background – with its motivating sociocultural and political features, like the importance of power-relations - than on its linguistic features. I would like to discuss the most important concepts which determine translation-loyalty while concluding the relevant views. It will be shown that the demand on loyalty towards translation of literary works, independent of its changing components over time and regardless of its apparent unscientific character, is inseparably present at the roots of any translation of literary works. |
Key words: | text approach translation versus liberal translation, cultural transfer, analysis of translation of literary works in Translation Studies approach, translation of literary works and the concept of hibridity from a postcolonial point of view |
