Shortened chronicles of the facts and events that they evoke, sources of information concerning the faith and the thinking of the ancient Vikings, skaldic poems require a complex participation of the reader to reveal their meaning. In kenning metaphors that refer to Jesus Christ pagan allusions are condensed and fossilized, encapsulating almost forgotten allusions to the deities of pagan Scandinavian pantheon. These units of figurative language i.e. kenning, record and retain relevant knowledge including, above all, a reflection, a mirror of the culture from which they sprang.

În metaforele kenning care se referă la Iisus Hristos, aluziile păgâne sunt condensate şi fosilizate, încorporând aluzii la zeităţile aproape uitate ale panteonului scandinav păgân. Aceste unităţi ale limbajului figurat, i.e. kenning, înregistrează şi păstrează în planul conţinutului lor cunoştinţe relevante care includ, mai presus de toate, o reflecţie, o oglindire a culturii din care provin.
