| Abstract: | Among the Romanian words of «unknown etymology», teafăr „safe and sound” is an Old Eastern Germanic loan (probably Bastarnic), cf. OEngl. æl-tǽwe „omnino bono, sanus” and Sp. (< Sueb.) zafo. See also OLGerm. toufere „veneficus” (Bosworth-Toller : 15; 972). |
