Abstract:The Mount of Olives is located East of Jérusalem and has three peaks. The middle peak is associated with the life of our Lord Jesus Christ and His Holy Ascension. Many events of the life of Christ on earth are associated with this Mount: the Entrance of the Lord to Jerusalem, the last Judgement, the Last Supper, His Holy Ascension etc. Ascetics began residing on the Mont of Olives during the first hundred years of Chrisianity. Empress Helen erected the Eleona basilica above the cave where Christ talked to His disciples. The Mont of Olives became one of the first centers of monasticism in Palestine (Melania the Older, Melania the Younger, St. Pelagia, Arh. Antonin, Kharatia, Hieromonk Partenius, Evpraxia, Patr. Damianos, Archbishop Anastasy – charged with Ecclesiastical Missions etc.).
