Abstract:Prison space theme, evident in the steinhardtian magnum opera of The Journal of happiness, has a multitude of hypostasis through which the converted to Christianity, assumes the baptism in the prison of Jilava (March 15th, 1960). The imprisoned character experience is subject to diachronic perspective in this analysis, characterizing aspects of a transfiguration by faith of a generation that knew the totalitarian tragic period in this way. Liturgical gesture of baptism through which Nicolae Steinhardt adheres to Christianity, is analyzed by possible semantics of the expression “from grubby water (and quickly spirit)” and the symbolism of “light” recurrent term within steinhardtian work. It highlights this existential path with roots in the prison space and original forms of expression, by the comparative with the later monastic space, as his biography confirms us. In this respect, we highlight the possible meanings of his happiness, paradoxical elementary through cooperative experiences that pass through suffering and followed in the bio destiny evolution (bibliographic) of Nicolae Steinhardt to 25 years from immortalizing him.
