Abstract:Bishop of Carthagina between 248 and 258, Sanctus Cyprianus maintained, from his position, a rich correspondence as a living mirror of that time. By reading of his letters, we found out interesting information regarding anti-Christian persecutions during that period in the province of Africa. We also have information about confessors, confessores, martyrs, martyres, and, of course, about lapsi, the ones that fell in apostasy and, by succumbing to pressures of power and bringing sacrifice to idols, denied Christ. Treating this problem, Sanctus Cyprianus proved his intransigence, by asking that the return of lapses to Christian community to be conditioned by recognizing the Church’s authority and teachings and by following all traditions: first of all, the baptism, baptismum, into the Holy Church and imposing of the Bishop’s hand, manus impositio, in order to obtain the blessing of The Holy Spirit. The strictness, but not the rigorism, of his judgment is connected to human warmth and Christian love, to sincere desire of helping the ones in need and to spiritual rise of all Christian brothers, communitas, fraternitas Christiana.
