Abstract:This paper analyses Sextil Puşcariu’s memoirs from the first World War, focusing on the relationship between reality and fiction specific to confessive imagination. The objective point of view is constantly associated to the subjective perception inherent to autobiographic literature, much valued in Romanian literature by the concept of authenticity. Nevertheless, the latter is inseparable from the subjective imagination, by the fictional mark characteristic to any literary discourse. Sextil Puşcariu’s book reveals an “autobiographic imagination”, where evocation and interpretation are one, on different keys of lecture, in a modern perspective.
