| Abstract: | The substrate term cometai/comati mentioned by Dio Cassius related to the embassy sent by King Decebal to Emperor Traian, has had different interpretations in Romanian historiography. A pertinent analysis of this word must take into account both the whole context of the ancient story, and the fact that the word, which was obviously borrowed from Greek, created several substrate-related terms (especially toponyms and anthroponyms), wich were themselves mentioned in writing. |
