Abstract:[Influences of Corporate Culture in Professional Communication]
The present paper is part of a larger on-going research project on workplace communication, based at Transylvania University of Braşov, entitled Professional Language in Present-Day Romanian. Linguistic Patterns and Discoursive Structures.
Romanian workplace communication has transformed significantly over the past years, since the appearance of the multinational organizations in Romania. The use (and abuse) of internationally recognized languages (especially English) for intra- and interdepartmental communication in such organizations led to the occurrence of many linguistic distortions (both in the written and the oral communication forms). The present paper analyses such distortions at lexical level using authentic examples, collected (between 2003 and 2007) in real communication conditions in institutions and multinational organizations from Romania. The paper pleads for the recognition of this phenomenon and offers arguments in favour of a linguistic “common sense” in the process of renewing the present-day professional language in Romania.
