In the present paper, the author analyses the risks and traps of self-translation, starting from one of his own experiences. The approach testifies to the question of faithfulness on a double level: local and global, and to the critical component, which is more consistent for the self-translator than for the translator. Quite often the self-translation becomes a better version of the source-text.
