La référenciation, comme toute opération énonciative, a pour repère initial absolu la situation d’énonciation avec l’ensemble de ses variables. Les valeurs référentielles sont construites par l’énonciateur et reconstruites par le co-énonciateur à partir d’un ensemble d’ indices cotextuels ou contextuels, du savoir partagé, etc. Dans le cas de la traduction interlinguale, cette reconstruction passe par un double filtre - interlinguistique et interculturel. Qu’en est-il dans ces conditions de la liberté du traducteur, vu l’exigence première de reconstruire en langue cible la situation-repère existante en langue source, quels que soient les moyens linguistiques mis en œuvre à cet effet ? C’est à cette question que nous nous sommes proposé d’apporter une réponse-illustration, en examinant la reconstruction en roumain des valeurs référentielles du pronom ON dans un extrait du « Pays noyé » de Paul Willems.
Building referential values, like all the other declarative operations, starts from the speech event with all its variables. Referential values are constructed and reconstructed by the co-enuntiator starting from a co-textual and contextual set of indices, shared knowledge, etc. In the case of inter-lingual translation this reconstruction goes through a double filter: inter-linguistic and intercultural. What happens, under these circumstances, with the translator’s freedom, given his overriding duty to rebuild in the target language the landmark speech event from the source language, notwithstanding the linguistic means used for this purpose? Regarding this question we aim to provide an illustrative response by examining the Romanian reconstruction of the referential values of the French pronoun “on” in an excerpt of Paul Willem’s novel “Pays noyé”.
