Rezumat:The paper deals (from the cultural linguistics and diachronic cognitive semantics perspectives) with an analysis of the dynamics of the conceptualization and lexicalization of two basic emotions: pride and love, within the Romanian period of transition towards modernity; the analysis is based on a representative corpus of texts from the 16th - the 18th centuries. Following the general changes of the cultural-historical context, the emotional conceptualization undergoes, as well, an important process of refinement and renewal. The individual-subjective semantic parameter tends to be focused on, self-oriented emotions becoming salient: love of self; pride/pridefulness. The differentiation of new, more refined and proteic emotion concepts: aroganţă [arrogance], vanitate [vanity], orgoliu [self-esteem/pride], egoism, ambiţie [ambition] (implying the overlapping of the conceptual schemata of the basic emotions pride and love) represents the basic innovation. The conceptual diversification implicitly triggers lexical-semantic renewal. On the one hand, old, preexistent words (mândru, mândrie; fală, făli etc.) develop new meanings; on the other hand, new words (of NeoLatin origin) are borrowed, designating the recent discriminated affective dimensions, more conceptually refined.
