| Rezumat: | [Epilogue. Reflections at dusk] “Reflections at dusk” is a retrospective of school years seen through the eyes of a man who has reached old age. The aim of this text is none other than to retrace, based on my memories, the schooling I underwent, beginning with the time of the deepest shapeshifting of the Romanian society after the establishment of communism in the country. I believe that all the stages of education that I have experienced have meant, for the Romanian system of learning, a struggle between the principles of interwar schooling – solid, precise, firm principles and uncompromising institutions with well-trained teachers and a properly acknowledged hierarchy of values – and the Marxist-Leninist educational policy of forging the new man – an unprincipled, indoctrinated, weak policy, subsumed under the whims of the mighty. Most certainly, some of the aspects discussed may not be plausible, but my satisfaction will lie in the questions that they can trigger among the generations today, either those that are part of the system, or those outside it. |
