Rezumat:[“Emilia once Serbac”, or on the “disavowal” of one’s name]
The author’s studies on unconventional anthroponomastics and the Romanian literature of the same orientation, regarding the act of naming and its products – names –, mainly pay attention to the psycholinguistic attitude of the naming agent in relation to the selection and attribution of a nominal substitute for a named subject. In general, one takes into consideration the extralinguistic factors that led to the coinage of an unofficial name and its entrance into the extended use (the history and functionality of the official name).
On the present occasion, I propose a theoretical excursus whose main point is the named individual. To be more precise, I will try to unravel the grounds on which a name bearer himself/herself denies his/her canonical name or the said anthroponym is avoided by other participants in its usage.
Thus, I establish as the centre of interest of my analysis the attempt to reconstitute the psycho-, sociolinguistic and pragmatic effect produced (on the bearer) by a nominal choice made by someone else. By denying and subsequently replacing one’s name through an unconventional means of expression, the patient exerts his/ her right to appeal and initiates a second appeal against a (naming) decision that is considered, more often than not, to bring prejudices (especially moral ones).
