| Rezumat: | This paper focuses on the practical experience and theoretical teaching or training that are necessary for the professional translator. The real question is what kind of experience of the world is indispensable for the translator’s work. Is experience of the culture or cultures in which it is natively spoken essential? How important is rich experience of one’s mother tongue? Is it essential to be exposed to people who speak it in different regions, social classes, and professions? Is it enough to have read in it widely and attentively? Bridging across English and Romanian languages, the reader-based shifts in translations aim perhaps at two ways of seeing and understanding the world. |
