| Rezumat: | [Prosodic Means of Emphasizing the Adjectival Constituent] Contrastive focus highlights a certain element/constituent of the statement, which can occur in some specific communication situations that require the exclusion of some possible referential alternatives in the same context. In this paper we research the prosodic means of emphasizing the adjectival extension of the subjects in the statement with SVO structure – SEVO and SVOE. Our approach is based on a comparative analysis of the same statements uttered with “neutral” intonation (broad focus) and with contrastive focus on the adjective. The corpus was selected from the archives of The Multimedia Atlas of Romania (AMPRom) and represents the literary language spoken in six points of the atlas. |
