Rezumat:Along centuries, Romanian language has witnessed several influences and the consequence is the assimilation of a number of lexical borrowings and innovations. Some of them can be traced in the present Romanian vocabulary, but there is an important number of words which are no longer in use.
Different ethinic contacts that the Romanian language had during the VIth and XVIth century represent the “cause” for other borrowings of Slavonic, Turkish, Hungarian, Germanic origin that might be detected in the Romanian vocabulary.
At the end of the XVII th century and throughout the XVIIIth century, neo-Greek borrowings spread all over Moldavia and Wallachia. These particular borrowings covered the social, intellectual and religious level of language.
In the following period (the XVIIIth and the XIXth century), a growing interest for the Western values can be pointed out. The Latin-Romanic influence is considered as representing a very important moment for the Romanian vocabulary because this was the source for the greatest number of neologisms and loan-translations covering all the Romanian spiritual and material life.
The English influence became significant especially after the second world war and it was determined by several factors such as: political factors (the role played by the USA and England on the political stage), cultural and social factors (the American life style) and linguistic factors (the English language prestige as an international language).
Out of all these aspects, we are particular interested in the Romanian financial system and the way in which the English language has influenced it. Terefore, the purpose of this paper is to emphasize the main features of the English words employed in the Romanian financial system. Getting familiar with this language, the Romanian financial community may easily become part and parcel of the international financial community. Our analysis was performed by taking into consideration the most important aspects characterizing the elements of English origin which will be “observed” from the language levels point of view.
