| Rezumat: | The present article focuses primarily on the homonymous collision between the medical term tril – a phonetic, orthographic, and morphological adaptation of the English term thrill – and the common lexeme from every-day Romanian vocabulary, tril, the latter being a borrowing from Italian. Besides the semantic issues raised by homonymy, the study also highlights other external semantic relations, such as synonymy and hyponymy, with special reference to medical language. Cross-linguistic influence and interference between English, the nowadays international language of medicine, and Romanian, is another subject-matter tackled by the example chosen for this analysis. |
