| Rezumat: | The aim of this article is to detect the linguistic effects of globalization upon the Romanian contemporary lexis. Attention is focused on recent English borrowings (known as anglicisms and americanisms) as they are found in present-day journalese. The investigation is developed within the framework of functional linguistics, taking into account several types of words: necessary vs. superfluous (or luxury) Anglicism; technical (denotative) vs. stylistic (connotative) borrowings; adapted vs. unadapted or incompletely adapted borrowings. A brief presentation of the main tendencies concerning the pronunciation, the spelling, the morphological status and the semantic changes involved in the assimilation of anglicisms clearly demonstrates that the globalization process contributes to the modernization and internationalization of the present-day Romanian vocabulary, without generating major changes in the phonological or the morphological system of our language. |
