| Rezumat: | The paper analyses the cultural background accounting for the exclusion of Constantin Brancoveanu from the gallery of the historical figures which have been turned into literary prototypes of the Romanian romanticism. The discrepancy between the image of the martyr, frequently revisited by the romantics, and the scarcity of the literary works fictionalizing the martyrdom of the Brancoveanu family is interpreted in the context of the XIX century mentalities and in the light of the factors influencing subject choices. The cohabitation of literature and history, characteristic to pre-romantic ages, and reinforced, in a conceptually different manner, during romanticism, is brought to discussion, over an issue which is historically unjust, and literarily unprofitable. |
