A l’encontre des termes concrets qui sont des catégories prototypiques, les termes abstraits sont des catégories non-prototypiques, exigeant un type différent d’organisation conceptuelle cohérente, d’un plus haut degré d’abstraction. Vu le fait que, à la différence des catégories concrètes, les catégories abstraites ne peuvent pas être envisagées en termes de « meilleurs exemplaires », nous adoptons les principes des Modèles cognitifs idéalisés (ICM = Idealized Cognitive Models) pour proposer une analyse interculturelle des émotions à partir du modèle offert par Wierzbicka (1990). L’objectif de notre analyse est de réaliser une étude contrastive (roumain/anglais) centrée en même temps sur la diversité culturelle et sur les « universaux émotionnels », pour en proposer des pistes d’approche en didactique des langues.
In this paper, we start from the assumption that whereas concrete terms are prototypical categories, abstract terms are non-prototypical categories, requiring a different type of coherent conceptual organization with a higher degree of abstractness. Starting from the fact that unlike the concrete categories, the abstract categories can no longer be referred to as ‘best examples’, instead, they can be described by means of Idealized Cognitive Models, where degrees of abstractness are higher, we are going to provide an analysis of emotions across cultures, starting from the model described by Wierzbicka (1990). The aim of this analysis is to perform a contrastive study focusing on both cultural diversity and ‘emotional universals’ in English and Romanian, as well as to point out its consequences for foreign language teaching and learning.
