Rezumat:This paper analyzes the lexical (but also some morphosyntactic) features of the French language that is used for liturgical celebration in French parishes and monasteries that were founded as early as the beginning of the XXth century. One can notice in France, a country traditionally associated with the Catholic confession (especially in Romania, but not only), a revival of interest in the « Eastern » Orthodoxy which leads to a boost of a Christianity that is declining or getting secularized. Given its specific features, the French Orthodox religious terminology represents one of the rare fields of the French language which does not contain English borrowings. Our paper will try to explain why.
