Abstract:This paper proposes to make a division between the series Domnia-sa ‘(pol.) he/she’ (whose members are considered here compound pronouns) and the protocolary formulae Excelenţa Sa ‘His/Her Excellency’ (considered pronominal expressions). Consequently, it is recommended that they are written differently: Domnia-sa, Domniile-lor, etc. (with a hyphen and a capital letter only for the first term) vs. Excelenţa Sa, Majestăţile Lor Imperiale etc. (with the components separated by a blank and with capital first letters for all components). It is also shown that currently certain compound pronouns (Domnia-ta, Domnia-lui, Domnia-ei) actually function as fake politeness pronouns.
