| Abstract: | This paper investigates the Old and Modern Romanian contexts in which the adjective vechi occurs. Phrases like un vechi manuscris ‘an old manuscript’, un vin vechi ‘an old wine’, un prieten vechi ‘an old friend’, (Old Romanian) un om vechi ‘an old man’ give rise to different semantic analyses and syntactic interpretations. The syntactic features of vechi are either general syntactic features of the subclasses in which its occurrences are included, or constructional particularities of the head of a respective nominal phrase. |
