Abstract:[Bent–kint ‘interior–exterior’ relation within the abstract usage of Hungarian prefixated verbs. Diachronic and cognitive approach]
The study is part of a broader research. The aim is to answer the questions: how were/are these verbal prefixes used; why do verbal prefixes connect to the verbs they were/are attached to; why has a verb changed its prefix in time while the meaning has remained the same? The questions – as I have shown in my previous papers (Fazakas 1996a, 1996b, 2003, 2007) – can be partially answered by using a new perspective that is the methods of cognitive semantics in Hungarian historical linguistics. The present study is focusing on abstract usage of the verbal prefixes be ‘into’ and ki ‘out of’ between 15th and 20th centuries.
