Abstract:One of the most difficult issues of grammar to teach in secondary school is the non-finite verbal forms, firstly because the concepts of predicate, predication and predicativity are poorly explained and exemplified in almost all handbooks, secondly because the amount of information is rather scarce. Moreover, some contexts used for the practical part are either wrongly chosen and don’t represent the exact piece of information or are omitted from the presentation of these non-finites. The present paper will highlight these aspects and suggest some possible solutions to improve the teaching of the Infinitive, the Gerund, the Participle and the Supine.
Key words:verb, non-finites, syntactic functions, distribution, context
