Abstract: | The arbitrary character of the linguistic sign in any natural language is a long debated theoretic problem. Numerous studies have shown, though, that some signs can be motivated to a certain extent. I shall here present the semantic connections different speaking communities make between names of musical instruments and some other signs. |
Key words: | arbitrary, motivated linguistic sign, Semantics, musical instruments, metaphor |
