Abstract:[A foreword published in 1530]
In 1530 Martin Luther edited the German translation of Tractatus de moribus, condicionibus et nequicia Turcorum by Georg Captivus Septemcastrensis (the libellus had been published in Rome, in 1481). Luther’s foreword, written in Latin, is a lucid and succinct survey over the necessity of direct knowledge of the Muslim world, mostly in the historical context of the Siege of Vienna in 1529.
