Abstract:[War and peace in Italian twentieth-century onomastics]
The contribution intends to illustrate the incidence of personal names connected to concepts derived from “war”, “armistice”, “peace”, with particular reference to the period of the First World War, of which we are currently marking the centenary. The source used is the personal name database for the twentieth century (ArchiPersIt). From its study we can draw clear correlations between events relating to the war and names recalling such events.
The analysis has also got a historical dimension, with the intention of tracing the names analysed back to the medieval era and identifying the effects on the development of surnames.
Key words:onomastics, anthroponymy, the Middle Ages, the modern age
