Abstract: | [Synchronic vs diachronic in the study of Romanian verbal allomorphy] The present study readdresses the subtle issue of the relation between different lexical units and formal varieties of one and the same word (inherited, borrowed or derived) and distinguishes, at least for verbs, the following cases: a) different words (diachronic, diatopic or diastratic etymological synonyms), coming from different direct etyma with the same remote origin – interlinguistic etymological doublets or triplets; b) morphological variants resulting from the exclusively grammatical transfer from a conjugation class to another of an inherited or borrowed verb, with no semantic differentiation, by the substitution of an etymological suffix with an analogical one; c) different words (analyzable derivative synonyms, most of them synchronic and syntopic), obtained via derivation from a single internal base (radical or analyzable) with different suffixes. |
