Abstract:[Notes on the determination of Romanian toponyms]
The paper aims to analyse the morphological and syntactic status of Romanian toponyms, with a special focus on their (inherent) determination. There are some questions to be answered: Is there an article in such proper names? Are they compatible with the article / determiner? Can we speak about a multiple determiner, whenever the noun phrase contains an article or a demonstrative? Our preliminary conclusions point out that the dispute conventional – unconventional is present not only at a pragmatic or semantic level, but it also concerns the grammar of proper names.
Key words:toponyms, morphology, syntax, determiner, article
