Abstract:
[On the semantics of proper names]
The paper deals with several polemics regarding the meaning of proper nouns (place names, people’s names) in conjunction with the one of common names. The conclusion we have reached is that proper names can be classified into two classes : 1) nouns with rich, full semantics; 2) nouns with poor semantics, function of the referent and existential area of language: langue and parole, respectively.
