Abstract:[The universe of kinship reflected in anthroponomy]
This paper studies the way in which some words that designate different degrees of kinship are reflected in Romanian anthroponomy.
In Romanian, the term rudenie (‘kinship’) illustrates the direct or collateral relationship between people from the same family. This relationship is expressed by a series of words called termeni de rudenie (‘kinship terms’).
The present article discusses family names formed throughout time from different words that are indicative of kinship terms. The analysis includes names such as Mătuşa, Monea, Bratu, and their derivatives Mătuşescu, Mătuşoiu, and so on.
This study also takes into consideration names like Sin, Brat, Zet, derived from the well-known Slavonic words sin, brat, zet, which are very frequent in statistic reports.
Key words:anthroponomy, interrelationship, removes, family names
