Abstract:[Romanian odonymy – Between autochthonism and cosmopolitanism]
Street names best mirror the image of microtoponymy in public space. On the one hand, these names should be chosen on the basis of objective criteria that are professionally coordinated according to distinct principles. On the other, they are subjected to administrative arbitrariness, which is often prompted by political biases. The Romanian urban space reveals the coexistence of traditional names (Aleea Topitorilor, Strada Măcelarilor), some of which are inherited from previous ages, and modern names, most of which are occidentally-minded (Strada Paris, Strada Londra).
Key words:odonyms, public space, multiculturalism
