Abstract:[Esoteric significances of names in Mircea Eliade’s fantastic prose]
Mircea Eliade is the author of literary texts characterised by a constellation of masks, by the sacred camouflaged in the profane. The mysterious atmosphere of his fantastic prose is cultivated by a series of techniques which are typical of this sort of literature. A text always carries a subtext, which amplifies the hidden significances of the work. Onomastics plays an important role in the general atmosphere of the writing, as nothing appears by chance in the prose of Mircea Eliade. The names of the characters have either symbolic meanings or a powerful mythical connotation.
The street names are not accidental either, as they reconfirm the idea of endless mystery typical of the author’s prose.
