Abstract:[Proposition for the study of the troubadours’ anthroponymy and toponomastics]
The troubadours’ tradition is a clear example of cultural interference: what has come down to us was written primarily by non-Provencal copyists, in regions which do not coincide with the cultural source (for example the Venetian area, Catalonia, etc.), with a two centuries gap between the first troubadour’s witness and the composition of the first songbook. Studying troubadours’ onomastics is more necessary than ever, especially referring to a strongly contaminated corpus, with a high degree of divergence within the headings of compositions. We propose a systematic and taxonomic study of troubadours’ names, building a database in which both anthroponymic and toponymic elements are recomposed, with the possibility of a later research by types or by names. Applying linguistics to philology we aim to construct a sort of “anthroponymic textus”, which allows to discern some internal structures through a frequencial study.
