| Abstract: | [Hypocoristics of German young people] Due to empirical difficulties in getting convenient material, the domain of personal hypocoristics within onomastics has been neglected. The article suggests the use, in this respect, of the data from a new text type in German newspapers, which is commonly employed by young people to communicate private messages. In a corpus of these texts, more than 700 different hypocoristics occur. The analysis is made with regard to grammatical categories (composition, diminutives and so on) and, on the semantic-pragmatic level, with reference to metaphors, connotations and other such aspects. |
